Galloway Robert Fowler Galloway "Mary Coffey (10 Nov 1778-7 Jan 1853), daughter of John Coffey (ca 1750-1818) and his wife, Experience (1756-1847), ca 1796 in Monroe -John Coffey, "the Irishman", had come with his wife to Orange County ca 1786 from Lee, Mass (Cong Church) -Mary had been baptized in Lee in 1783 - George bought 153 acres in Cheesecocks #2 (11/2 miles north of Harriman) from Michael Hay on 12 February 1803 - owned an inn, Feb 1815, which was probably his home and which was probably located 1/2 mile south of Lower Smith's Clove (present day Central Valley) at the intersection of the turnpike and the road to Turner's (present day Harriman) [now the Land and Sea restaurant] -he bought 481/2 acres in Cheesecocks #5 (1 mile east of Monroe Village) in 1820 - she inherited 46 acres from her father in 1828, sold it to her son George W. in 1837, then repurchased it from him plus 24 acres from Goff farm in 1844- George left a will 25 Oct 1830 - both buried Coffey/Galloway Cemetery (1 mile south of Central Valley) -George's epitaph: Death is a debt to nature due which I have paid and so must you."1
2-earliest recorded burial in Coffey/Galloway Cemetery -her grave stone reads "Her mind was tranquil and serene, No terrors in her looks were seen, the Saviour's smile dispels the gloom and smooths her passage to the Lord ( ? ) "1
