However on January 4, 1864 at Deer Park, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York David A. Galloway, the 20-year-old brother of Francis M. Galloway, did enlist as private in Company U, 10th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment. It appears that Company U was a transfer company for on that same day, January 4, 1864, in New York City David A. Galloway was transferred to Company U, 16th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment. He was then transferred to Company C, 16th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment and participated also in the siege of Petersburg from June 9 through August 1, 1864. He was discharged at Smithville, North Carolina Hospital on June 16, 1865.
David A. Galloway drew a soldiers pension for his service with Company C, 16th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment form February 10, 1883, certificate #884458 New York, until his death February 1917. His widow, Mary E. Galloway, would then draw the widow's pension from March 9, 1917, certificate # 826847 New York, until her death in 1931.
